FORGE

In times of war and displacement, Kjerstin (pronounced ‘share – stin’) Erickson – founder of FORGE – is making the world a better, safer, more peaceful place to live for the people most affected.
Ms. Erickson, a 24 year old California native, approached CBCI in November of 2007 with her ideas to rebuild and refresh her organization’s website leveraging our expertise in Ruby on Rails.
What is FORGE?
“FORGE is a US-based nonprofit organization that works with displaced communities in Africa. We invest in individuals affected by war to pursue education, economic self-sufficiency, and local development solutions in order to build capacity in African communities and lay the foundation for peace, stability and prosperity.”
“We believe in the power of war-torn refugees to transform their own lives and the lives of those around them. Join us in assisting 50,000 African refugees to seek education, become self-sufficent, and solve community problems.”
At the time of this writing the old site is still running, but within the next few weeks we will launch the new forgenow.org.
The new site will be at the cutting edge of donor engagement, allowing donors to not only select the project that best matches their interests and passions, but also to connect with the people implementing the project on-the-ground in Africa and get regular, syndicated updates on the project’s progress.
FORGEnow.org will allow donors to search and browse all of the projects and initiatives, and contribute to the one that most appeals to them. Each project will have its own page with several sub-tabs, have extensive multimedia capacity, and show in real-time the amount that has been donated to date. Once a project is funded, the page will receive regular updates on progress via RSS feed, and the donors to that particular project will receive regular automated email updates. We will also have substantial social networking capabilities to allow donors to further engage with the project, the cause, and each other.
- Unlimited ongoing scalability
- Enhanced search functionality
- Enhanced donor and donation support
- Increased multimedia functionality
- Web 2.0 feedback, comments, etc
What FORGE does is extraordinary! Affecting so many lives in a positive way is nothing short of miraculous.
CBCI salutes FORGE and Ms. Erickson, and is proud to take a small part in their future success!
Get involved! You too can become a donor and volunteer time, money or other items to lift up people who really need the help. Visit FORGEnow or contact Kjerstin Erickson and tell her CBCI sent you.
